Buckinghamshire, or Bucks for short, is situated in South East England and consists of the districts of South Bucks, Aylesbury Vale, Chiltern and Wycombe. Aylesbury is Buckinghamshire's county town. The county is one of the oldest, dating back to the 6th century but has only carried it's current name since around the 12th century when it was named after a landowner in Buckingham. Buckinghamshire translates into the 'district of Bucca's home'.
These days the southern areas of the county contain some properous commuter towns, serving the city of London, though the county itself is mainly agricultural. At 267m, Coombe Hill, near the town of Wendover, is the highest point in Buckinghamshire.
